Artist Statement

When I put paint to paper it’s like the start of an adventure, a road trip. I enjoy the anticipation of hitting the wide open paper, I pack my imagination and grab my vision and start the creative journey. The watercolour painting process, like an excursion, can sometimes take me down some unexpected routes, at times bringing to light some wonderful sights and other times forcing me to ask for directions. The mystery of the journey is what keeps me hooked. Like a vacation I begin by thoroughly planning my paintings almost rehearsing in my mind the route I will take. This allows me to be very aware of my paint application while at the same time immersing myself in the spontaneous nature of water media. Learning to go with the flow, finding joy in the twists and turns of the trip and even getting lost all provide me with a thrill! If I reach the destination in my art work that’s great but the important thing is to enjoy the ride!

1977-80 Bachelor of Science- Concordia University(Montreal Que)

I was born in Montreal Que. in 1958.  I spent much of my youth "kicking around" that culturally rich city.  For a young person interested in art Montreal was a wonderful source of creative  nourishment.  After graduating from university with a Bsc in Exercise Physiology I moved to Jasper Alberta.  There I discovered an exciting contrast in scenery and lifestyle from the city life I had known.  I then spent over two decades enjoying much of what the mountain culture had to offer.  I married a wonderful man and we raised our children in Jasper, it holds a special place in my heart. The grandeur of nature inspired me to put paint to paper and visually narrate mountain life as it unfolded around me.
In 2001 family opportunities took us to St. Albert, Alberta.  It was there that I furthered my art career,  joining an Artist Run Centre as a resident Artist .  It was great to be back in an urban area, but I also loved exploring the surrounding  prairies where  big skies and long shadows abounded.
I have always been interested in the Therapeutic qualities of Art, after recovering from a life changing battle with cancer I was inspired  to work as an instructor with the Arts in Medicine Program at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton Alberta.  This experience was invaluable, I met many fantastic people who along with me used art to help them deal with the emotional upheaval a cancer diagnosis can bring.
When my husband retired after working for 33 yrs with CN Rail, it was time for a new adventure.  For 20 yrs our family had vacationed in Summerland BC,  always dreaming of one day residing in this beautiful environment. In 2013 our dream became realtiy ! Now a Summerland  resident I am marveling at my beautiful new surrondings.  I am looking forward to creating  exciting works inspired by the great people and amazing landscapes  of the  Okanagan  Valley!
